Revisiting Bill Belichick's 'Beat Duke' comments

In his introductory news conference, Belichick claimed his first words growing up were "Beat Duke," making his move to UNC seem like a pairing of destiny.

"Always wanted to coach in football, college football. It just never really worked out," Belichick said in his introductory news conference. "I had some good years in the NFL, so that was OK. But this is really kind of a dream come true. I grew up in college football with my dad, coach at Navy for 50 years. As a kid, all I knew was college football.

"... When you are little, you don't remember everything. I obviously was too young to remember a lot of things from (our time in) Carolina. As I grew up, you hear the same story over and over again. So one story I always heard was, (that) Billy's first words were, 'Beat Duke.'"
