India's drug regulator tightens surveillance against unauthorized weight-loss drug sales

March 24 (Reuters) - India's drug regulator tightened ‌surveillance against unauthorized ‌sale and promotion of weight-loss ​drugs, the country's health ministry said on Tuesday, following local ‌drugmakers launching ⁠a wave of generic, cheaper versions ⁠of Novo Nordisk's blockbuster drugs Ozempic ​and Wegovy.

The ​regulator ​conducted inspections at ‌49 entities, including drug wholesalers, retailers, and slimming clinics, in recent weeks as it ‌clamps down ​on the ​unauthorized ​sale and use ‌of weight-loss drugs, ​according to ​the statement.
