Disgraced former NFL kicker Justin Tucker gets tryout from Saints

Justin Tuckercould be one step closer to anNFLreturn.

The disgraced former kicker of theBaltimore Ravensreceived a tryout from theNew Orleans Saints.Per NewOrleans.Football's Nick Underhill, Tucker and fellow veteran Cade York are in the mix for a roster spot. Tucker recently completed a10-game suspension for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

TheRavens released Tucker in May, though simply characterized it as one of the tough "football decisions" any team makes. Of course, that was only a part – hopefully a very small part – of the calculus to unload a five-time All-Pro who'd crafted an argument as the best kicker in league history over 13 mostly stellar seasons on the football field.

<p style=Week 1: Detroit Lions wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa (18) makes a catch for a touchdown against the Green Bay Packers during the fourth quarter at Lambeau Field. The play was originally ruled an incomplete pass, but the call was overturned. Despite TeSlaa's effort, the Packers won the game 27-13.

The Raiders won the game, 20-13. Week 1: New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson (3) fumbles the ball on a tackle by Washington Commanders safety Will Harris (3) during the first quarter at Northwest Stadium. It was a rough Giants debut for Wilson (17 of 37 passing for 168 yards) as the Commanders won the game, 21-6. Week 1: Fireworks go off before the NFL Kickoff Game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field. The defending Super Bowl champion Eagles opened the season with a 24-20 victory over their longtime NFC East rivals.

Yet it's Tucker's purported misconduct elsewhere for which he's become notorious – if, apparently, not completely radioactive.

According to in-depthreporting by the The Baltimore Banner, 16 massage therapists from eight Baltimore-area spas shared horror stories about alleged sexual misconduct by Tucker during sessions that occurred between 2012 and 2016. Tucker was not charged with any crimes, and the statute of limitations in Maryland to file a civil action against him is long past. He has also strongly denied the therapists' claims.

Winners, losers of Tucker suspension?Sorry, there are only losers here

"Obviously, there's been some stuff that's been unfortunate,"Saintscoach Kellen Moore said Monday.

"He's gone through an experience, and I think it's about collecting what that experience was."

The NFL's investigation into the matter spurred it to suspend Tucker on June 26. But unlike the penalty the league levied againstCleveland Brownsquarterback Deshaun Watson three years ago, in what can only be described as similar circumstances – at the time, 24 women had filed civil suits against him involving allegations of sexual misconduct, also during massage therapy sessions – Tucker was not fined nor ordered to undergo treatment or an evaluation.

On the field, last season was also the worst of Tucker's career as he converted a career-low 73.3% of his field-goal attempts.

Saints incumbent Blake Grupe has made 69.2% of his field goals this season, worst among NFL kickers with at least 20 attempts. He was 1-for-3 in New Orleans' 24-10 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
